On 06.12.2010 we celebrate St. Nicholas. Even in our two markets Nicholas will distribute gifts: each child that the Santa Claus with a poem, song, image or other surprises, gets a small gift.

Der heilige Nikolaus gilt wie der heilige Martin als „apostelgleich”. Ebenso wie der heilige Martin ist Nikolaus einer der ersten Nichtmärtyrer, die als heilig gelten. Aber anders als Sankt Martin wurde und wird der heilige Nikolaus sowohl in der lateinischen als auch in der griechischen Kirche hochverehrt. Während Nikolaus im Westen durch die kritische Wissenschaft an pastoral-theologischer Brisanz verloren hat, ist sein volkstümlicher Stellenwert eher gestiegen. Im Osten dagegen hat sich die kirchliche Bedeutung des Heiligen ungebrochen bis heute bewahrt.
Auslöser dieses Kultes und Brauchtums ist the figure of that holy Nicholas, since 6 Century, appearing in legends. Because of critical text analysis, we now know that this legendary figure is fictitious and the legendary Nicholas is a compilation of two historical figures: the Bishop Nicholas of Myra in Lycia, Asia Minor, probably in the 4th Century lived, and the same abbot of Sion, Bishop of Pinora was, and on 10 December 564 died in Lycia.
developed from these two historical figures, the sixth from the Century legends elusive fictional character of the miraculous all-powerful Bishop of Myra.
